The Macquarie University Alumni Relations Office, working in partnership with an enthusiastic group of alumni, has formed an alumni chapter in Victoria.
The alumni working committee is organising several events throughout the year for alumni to network, socialise and discuss issues and trends in the community. As representatives of the wider Macquarie alumni network in Victoria, they seek your suggestions and input in developing activities which will be of interest to you.
The first event for the year was on Friday, 11 April 2008. The VIC Chapter in conjunction with the Macquarie University Applied Finance Centre invited alumni and friends to attend a Finance Professionals lunchtime seminar by Julian Turecek, a leading expert on Emissions Trading. The seminar was held at the Macquarie Applied Finance Centre in Melbourne.

September 27, 2007
The Australian Alumni Association Mexico has been officially launched. This Association will support the professional development of Mexican graduates and preserve the relationship that professionals have with Australia.
For years, Australian institutions have been building an important relationship with Mexico and Mexican educational institutions. As a result of the development of these relations, there are now thousands of Mexicans who are studying or have studied in Australia.
For this reason and with the support of Australian Education International (AEI), we decided to establish an Australian Alumni Association in Mexico. The Associations aim is to support the professional development of Mexican students who have studied in Australia and to strengthen the relationship between Australia and Mexico.
Furthermore, an important goal of the Australian Alumni Association in Mexico, is to establish a marketing and communications infrastructure to support the vision, expansion and recognition of Australian Education Institutions in Mexico and ensure Australian alumni in Mexico have the opportunity to remain in contact with each other and their institutions. In addition, the Association will support efforts to increase the awareness of the Australian 'brand' in Mexico.
Currently, there are 2,500 Mexican alumni who have studied in Australia. During the launch of the Alumni Association Keri Ramirez, President of Australian Alumni Mexico said: "We are working on this project with great interest and excitement. We know that our Alumni are well qualified and as a result, they are employed in good positions in the public and private sector here in Mexico".
In addition, Davina Potts, AEI Counsellor (Education, Science and Training) for Latin America said: "We have seen over the years that Australian alumni from the Asia-Pacific region have been employed in important positions in different sections and now it is with great pleasure that we are starting to see that Australian alumni in Mexico are joining this unique group of young professionals with international perspectives".
During the official launch of the Australian Alumni Association in Mexico City, over 100 Mexican graduates who studied at various institutions across Australia attended. Also present at the official launch were 20 representatives of Australian Universities and Institutions including the Vice Chancellor of Griffith University.
To date, the Association has over 150 members and the numbers are expected to grow in coming months. Further events will be cheduled in the future to establish a regular schedule of events to support the professional development of alumni in different areas.
Macquarie University has been for several years the most popular destination for Mexican students in Australia. In 2004, we initiated a series of events with our alumni and in 2006 our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Steven Schwartz hosted an event for Macquarie Alumni in Mexico City.
Macquarie has already many links in Mexico, including a large alumni group, exchange and dual degree agreements with several universities and it now plans to further develop its research links through agreements with universities and with the Mexican Ministry of Education.
Macquarie Alumni, Keri Ramirez, came with the idea of creating the alumni association in Mexico. Keri is currently the President of the Australia Mexico Alumni Association. Maritza Padilla, Dual degrees coordinator at Macquarie International and also a Macquarie Alumni, represented Macquarie during the launch of the Alumni Association in Mexico. The event was very important in order to strengthen the relationship between Macquarie and its alumni network.
