The purpose of involving alumni to assist in student recruitment is to capitalise on their desire to serve as advocates for Macquarie University. Being able to speak from first-hand experience gives alumni high credibility with potential students.
Alumni are able to discuss a range of issues which carry significant weight in deciding which university to attend in particular the quality of the Macquarie University environment and its programs. With overseas students particularly, they can provide advice on cultural and social issues, food, costs, accommodation, safety and security and casual employment.
Student Referral consists of three components:
1. Refer a prospective student
Alumni who have a relative, friend or colleague who is interested in finding out more about studying at Macquarie University, can complete an online Referral Form.
The prospective student will then be contacted with the relevant information.
2. Share your experience with a prospective student
Alumni can register to assist at Macquarie exhibitions and open days by speaking to potential students on a one to one basis. Alumni overseas can attend pre-departure events organised by Macquarie International or send offs organised by alumni for students coming to study at Macquarie, providing them with valuable insights into the Macquarie experience.
Only a limited number of alumni will have the opportunity of providing support at exhibitions, open days and pre-departure events.
Once your registration is approved, your alumni profile will be deemed current for up to two years unless you advise otherwise. When required the Macquarie University Office organizing the Exhibitions, Open Days and pre-departure events will contact you, re-confirm your availability and provide you with relevant information regarding the event.

3. Write to a prospective student
Alumni can also share their Macquarie experience by writing to prospective students individually.
The Alumni Office will make every effort to utilise your involvement which will be contingent on the right opportunity being available. We will keep you informed on our progress.
