- Ancient History Alumni Event – Champagne Lecture
Date: Thursday 7 December 2007
The Society for the Study of Early Christianity (within the Division of Humanities), in conjunction with the Alumni Office held a very successful lecture presented by Professor Pauline Allen, Director of the Centre for Early Christian Studies from the Australian Catholic University in Brisbane. Before the lecture guests enjoyed refreshments and John Lee delivered an entertaining address to launched Malcolm Choat's book.
- Gourmet Dinner & Beer Tasting: Redoak Beer Café
Date: Saturday 2 December 2006
In it's second year, the annual event at the Redoak Beer Café was sold out. Approximately 100 alumni and friends enjoyed the delicious 4-course meal and beers which were expertly matched to each course. During the evening, the owner and brewer, David Hollyoak, explained the individual flavour and aroma of the various beers brewed on the premises.
- Macquarie Institute for Innovation Lecture
Topic: An Eco-system for Nurturing Startups - a Silicon Valley ViewDate: Tuesday 14 November 06
As the Macquarie Institute for Innovation completes its first year its Director Craig Mudge a lecture, "An eco-system for nurturing start-ups – a Silicon Valley view", for the benefit of our valued alumni. This was an extremely popular lecture well attended lecture, where Professor Mudge introduced critical success factors for initiating entrepreneurial ventures and areas worth focusing on at present.
- Science Divisions Postgraduate Reunion Cocktail Evening

The successful Science Postgraduate Reunion last year was followed up by a second reunion in November. The new Dean of ICS, Professor Thurgate, welcomed the gathered alumni and friends. It was yet another success with Dr David Skellern, CEO of NICTA, as the guest speaker. Dr Skellern's talk on Embeded Systems which are invisible to us but used in various forms in our day to day life, e.g. in the automobile industry, medicine and in the traffic system, was a fascinating topic.
- Alumni Lecture
Topic: Does Australia need a cultural policy?Date: Tuesday 31 October
Professor Throsby, Australia's leading cultural economist, engaged the audience on whether Australia needs a cultural policy. He shared his experiences and valuable research with the gathered alumni and friends. There was also an opportunity to purchase Professor Throsby's recently launched paper, "Does Australia Need A Cultural Policy?"
- Society, Culture, Media & Philosophy Cocktail Party
Date: Friday 27 October 2006
The inaugural SCMP cocktail party was held on campus with the attendance of over 60 SCMP alumni from diverse age groups. The Dean Michel Deane greeted the gathering emphasising on the new research initiatives the Division has begun implementing under Vice-Chancellor Schwartz. He was followed by Dr Amanda Wise, the guest speaker, who introduced her research area and the exciting times ahead for Macquarie.
- Humanities Alumni Lecture (Ancient & Modern History)
Topic - History: ancient with modern - from Melbourne to SydneyThursday 19 October
A very enthusiastic group of alumni and friends joined the Humanities panel discussion on the evolution of ancient and modern history in Melbourne and Sydney. For most participants it was an honour by itself to have the opportunity to have Professor Edwin Judge (Ancient History at Sydney and Macquarie Universities), Professor Bruce Mansfield (Modern History at Sydney and Macquarie Universities) and Professor Ron Ridley (Ancient History at Sydney and Melbourne Universities) under one roof.
- Convocation Annual General Meeting

The AGM was held prior to the commencement o the Annual Parliamentary Luncheon. It gathered many members of the Convocation. Six new appointments to the Standing Committee of Convocation were announced:

Yet again this signature event drew around 85 alumni, VIPs and staff to the spectacular Strangers' Dining Room of State Parliament House. Professor Steven Schwartz, the keynote speaker, enlightened his audience with his future plans for Macquarie. He elaborated on his vision of making Macquarie University one of the top 8 universities in Australia and one of the top 200 research universities in the world. He encouraged the audience to stay connected with Macquarie as it launches its journey toward excellence.
- Macquarie University Open Day

Future students and alumni braved the weather to be a part of the Macquarie University Open Day on 9 September. Alumni Office staff and members of the Standing Committee of Convocation greeted my alumni and prospective alumni at the Alumni stall. The Alumni Open Day lecture Series was conducted in parallel where Dr Bridget Giffen-Foley talked on forty years of talkback radio and Professor Jean Joss talked about the Lung fish. Both Dr Giffen-Foley and Professor Joss held very informative and inspiring talks about their areas of engagement.
- First Grade Rugby Match – Eastwood V Parramatta
Date: Saturday, 22 July 2006
The day commenced at 10.00am with Eastwood's Reserves, and continued with all their grades through to the big game in the afternoon. All complementary tickets offered by the Alumni Office to our alumni was grabbed immediately. And an enjoyable day was had by all.
